The course flows through stately pines and mature trees but heather is in play on a number of the holes. If you found the rough, you were left with tough shots into very small and quick greens. In the club house the staff and members were friendly and welcoming and the menu seemed to be varied and fairly priced. The majority of the course is laid out on reasonably flat terrain, although the first six holes start things off in a gently undulating environment, with a fine mix of long and short par-4's, plus a tricky par-3 at the 5th. East Berkshire Golf Club… my opinion on a course is always knocked slightly when there is only one par 5, and a bit like West Sussex, it was only a long par4 by modern standards. Highlights include the stretch from the seventh to the ninth (the pine trees that frame the eighth green are particularly special), the long par three thirteenth and the tough dog-leg par four fourteenth and then the closing two holes which are real challenges.
